Yab Yum
Yab Yum
The phrase “Yab Yum” relates to Tibetan Buddhist and Hindu renderings of the sexual union of the masculine and feminine. In Tibetan Buddhism, it symbolizes the primordial union of wisdom/insight (female) and compassion/skillful means (masculine). In Hinduism, the embrace is representative of the divine strength of creation. Yab Yum itself is an allusion to duality, but also a profound statement about the divine and ecstatic oneness that dwells beyond the illusion of Self and Other.
