Symbolism in “Patterns of Flight”

The hummingbirds symbolize lightness of being and the ability to find the sweetness in life; although they are hard workers, they are playful beings, and a reminder to savor each moment.

The Blue Morpho butterfly represents transformation, change, and renewal. It is considered a symbol of the spirit.

The Shipibo pattern in the center of the design is known as Xao Kene (pronounced "shou kuh-nuh"). It is thought to be the oldest type of Kene of the Shipibo and heals at the deepest level by helping release old ways of being that no longer serve.

The flowers and leaves in the center belong to the nicotiana rustica plant, also known as sacred tobacco. The leaves are used to make rapé, a ceremonial snuff used in many indigenous traditions of the Americas.

And lastly, the rainbow symbolizes fulfillment of all that we seek—which we can only achieve when we release our doubts. By trusting ourselves, we are capable of opening into who we truly are.
