Summer began work on this piece around the time that COVID was beginning to be recognized as a global pandemic. Able to cross borders, cultures, and continents, the pandemic has impacted the lives of countless human beings and resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands. While the topic of COVID is understandably complex, the artist sought to create a work that embodied the idea that there is no real separation across humanity. Beyond the many prejudices and ways in which we seek to judge and differentiate ourselves from others, the truth is, we are all connected. In this pandemic lies the opportunity for us to recognize this powerful truth and utilize it to move toward greater acceptance & equality.
