Atman
Atman
The atman ("self," "breath") in Sanskrit) is a term in Hinduism used to represent the idea of the essential self: that which exists beyond identification with phenomena. In Hindu philosophy, self-realization occurs when one becomes aware that one's true self and the ultimate reality are one and the same (or, in some schools of thought, both different and not-different).
